Best Brunch: Court Street’s Biggest Egg, Cheese and Bacon Croissant Sandwich

I’m a big fan of the breakfast sandwich. It’s fast, simple and gives me the freedom to get messy with my bare hands. Usually, I’ll run over to a nearby Italian deli and munch on a tasty egg and cheese sandwich to help cure my traditional Sunday hangover. But after hearing rave reviews from a few Hobokenites about Court Street’s breakfast sandwich, I had to check it out for myself. And what really tickled my taste buds was the name of the sandwich itself: “The Biggest Egg, Cheese and Bacon Croissant Sandwich You’ve Ever Seen!”. And yes, believe it or not, that’s literally what it’s called on the menu.

Egg Sandwich

Name of Dish: The Biggest Egg, Cheese and Bacon or Ham Croissant Sandwich You’ve Ever Seen! Served with a choice of regular fries, seasoned fries or home fries.
Complimentary Sides: Every brunch meal comes with a complimentary bowl of fresh seasonal fruit and a basket of homemade Irish soda bread.
Price: $10.95

Okay, so this sandwich can be bought at any deli in Hoboken. But what really makes this sandwich special is its portion size. We’re talking a large buttery croissant topped with three eggs scrambled, cheddar cheese and large strips of delicious crispy bacon. With that being said, it probably is the largest breakfast sandwich I’ve ever seen thus far, however I was imagining something so overwhelmingly ginormous that I would have trouble wrapping my chops around it. But how can I complain with a sandwich this delicious, especially when they earned extra brownie points for their golden crispy seasoned waffle fries. Burrrrrp! Excuse me.

THE HG RATINGS

Egg Sandwich

The croissant showed its perfection through its golden brown color, flaky texture and buttery taste in every bite. The scrambled eggs were cooked just right, but could have been a little bit more seasoned to help bring out more of the natural flavors. Out of all the ingredients in this sandwich, the bacon really did it for me in terms of the taste. The long streaky strips of crispy fried bacon that were scattered on top of the egg and cheese had a well-balanced fat to lean ratio and really brought all the flavors together with its fatty flavor. Bacon = Meat Candy. Yum!

The seasoned waffle fries were cooked to a beautiful golden crisp and were super delicious! It would have been nice to have these bad boys served with a variety of different sauces instead of just ketchup. But overall, some of the best waffle fries I’ve ever had.

Egg Sandwich

This sandwich is huge, but not as ginormous as I thought it would be. Being a big eater myself, I wasn’t overwhelmed by the size at all, especially with its name giving you high expectations of something as large as the entire plate. If anything was overwhelming it was the amount of bacon slices they topped the sandwich with! We’re talking maybe 5 or 6 strips of delicious meat candy. Overall, I was very happy with my portions. I ended up sharing half of my sandwich with a friend and the end result was still a food coma!

Presenting a simple sandwich like this could have been a little more organized. The bacon wasn’t evenly distributed across the sandwich, so I had do a little bit of food arrangement before I started munching. I would have liked to see more seasoning or garnish to make some of the colors of the dish pop out more.

    Waffle fries win me over any day….and that bacon!!!! Crisped to perfection :) There’s something to be said perfectly cooked bacon: mmmmmm drool.

    I need to go to this place at night. The entire eating area is carpeted and I doubt it can be open to drinkers. Very curious.
