Best Brunch: O’nieals’ Irish Breakfast

Before O’neals, I have never dealt with the massive undertaking of a traditional Irish Breakfast. A popular dish raved across the foodie community as a plate piled-high with a full fry-up of delectable ingredients packed with distinct Irish flavors. And when it comes to those flavors, O’nieals makes sure they get it right each time, with most of their main ingredients delivered by a company specializing in fresh Irish gourmet foods. So if you’re looking for an Irish restaurant that’s got a nice classy, homey feel, and the food that will make you bust out that Irish stepdance, visit O’nieals and try this classic dish.

Grilled traditional Irish bacon and sausage. Check. Baked beans. Check. Potatoes. Check. Eggs your way sitting on top of grilled tomato slices. Check. Black and white pudding. Huh? The most notorious part of this dish, black and white pudding ain’t no desert, which I had originally thought. Black pudding is pretty much blood sausage! Yes, you read that correctly. These little morsels are sausages made by cooking animal blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal when cooled. But don’t be scared. They’re absolutely deelish! White pudding is another meat dish very similar to black pudding, but does not include blood. Consequentially, it consists of pork meat and fat, suet, bread, and oatmeal formed into the shape of a large sausage. Not necessarily healthy, but definitely tasty!

The flavors of this dish were different then any other brunch meal I’ve had in Hoboken so far. The combination of unique Irish meats with the well-seasoned affair of perfectly cooked eggs and tomatoes offers a taste that is unforgettable to your pallete. The meaty, sweetly spicy, barley and oats studs of the black and white pudding was definitely the most memorable part of this dish. But overall, every part of this dish came together perfectly. After this dish, I promised myself to visit Ireland, but for now, O’nieals brings Ireland to me.

Get ready for a portion that will make you full. In Ireland, the Irish breakfast is considered one of the most important meals of the day. With eight separate ingredients, this dish is packed with everything a breakfast lover needs for a morning hearty meal intended to fortify any individual for a busy and active day. I was expecting a thick slab of Irish brown bread, but most of the foundation for this breakfast was more than enough for my tummy can handle.

With so much different pieces to work with, O’neials did a great job at making this dish look beautiful and organized in a perfect hierarchical layout that allows me to easily combine and conquer. The orange slice garnish made the dish pop-out in color.
