Best Brunch: Elysian Cafe’s Eggs Benedict

Best Brunch: Elysian Cafe’s Eggs Benedict

Posted on 18. Mar, 2009 in Dining

When I think about good ol’ Eggs Benny, I dream about a beautiful concoction of meat, eggs and Hollandaise sauce perfectly joined together in a holy matrimony of deliciousness.  It’s a classic favorite that appears on almost every brunch menu and for any brunchaholic like me, it’s one of those dishes that’s difficult to pass up.  Many Hobokenites have been giving rave reviews about Elysian Cafe’s version of this classic dish.  Even their waitresses claimed that their restaurant had the best in Hoboken. And since I’m on a mission to find the Mile Square’s best brunches, I decided to visit this popular Hoboken brunch spot and see what the hype was all about.

HOBOKEN GUY’S BREAKDOWN

Eggs Benny

Restaurant: Elysian Cafe
Name of Dish: Eggs Benedict
Price: $10.00

There’s only good things to talk about Elsyian Cafe’s Egg’s Benny. The generous plump poached eggs in this dish were cooked to perfection. With the yolk beginning to slightly solidify around the edges, they gave it just enough texture to encase that lovely pouch of lush, gooey yolk ready to burst open for that toast dipping action. The delicious eggs, sweet grilled ham, tangy Hollandaise sauce and perfectly toasted English muffin leaves your mouth with a burst of one holistic unforgettable flavor. The side of crispy Pommes Frîtes included with the dish was a great addition, although I believe the side choice of Lyonnaise Potatoes would have complemented the dish better. Are you drooling yet? Seriously, if you’re not, I’m not sure if we can be friends.

THE HG RATINGS

Eggs Benny

Everything in this dish is well-seasoned and beautifully cooked. A combination of the creamy and tangy Hollandaise sauce and the semi-fatty grilled ham balances the dish and imbues every bite with fantastic flavor. The force of all these wonderful flavors really leaves your mouth with an incredible after taste that’s hard to forget.

Eggs Benny

With two super plump poached eggs, thickly-sliced ham and a nice thick, crunchy english muffin, you’ll leave the restaurant satisfied and with a big smile on your face. And whether you choose the Lyonnaise Potatoes or the Pommes Frites as your side, you’ll have more than enough to share with your friends. Forgive me though, I couldn’t let one of my friends touch my dish – it was that good.

Eggs Benny

I’ve never seen Eggs Benny look this good. The vibrant yellow tone of the silky Hollandaise sauce poured meticulously over the eggs really made this dish look sexy. The tin cup that holds the Pommes Frites scores some extra points, bringing a little playfulness to the dish as well. Overall, the dish was minimal, simple yet colorfully appetizing.

Not a fan of Elysian brunch- they charge you for refills on fountain drinks there- think they are the only place in Hoboken that still does that!

You are making me so hungry right now!!!

The fries are delicious but the breakfast Lyonnaise Potatoes are amazing. mmmmm

I’m beginning to question your choice in sidekicks. The photog and models you had, as well as the first brunch sidekick all looked to be fun/sane. Patrick, not so much.

OH MY! I have to eat there! Eggs Benedict is my favorite! Absolute favorite! Best thing to get at my favorite meal: Brunch! Oh Hoboken Guy your photos and brunch excursions make me salivate. So much so that I may have to purchase a new laptop. This one will surely short-circuit soon from all the drool that has fallen upon it since the advent of this site!
