Whether you’re a Hoboken workhorse in need of a relaxing place to catch up on work or just need an intimate laid back setting to catch up with friends, I highly recommend Legal Beans. Right off of Garden Street, this cozy and intimate little coffee shop is a popular choice among locals, often busy during weekday and weekend lunch hours. Stroll pass this cafe and get a wafting smell of premium coffee beans and delicious baked goods and sandwiches. Enjoy the ambiance of an antique homey cafe and spacious outdoor seating while you surf the web for free and munch on their menu of indulgence.

Charge those laptops before you head over to Legal Beans. At times, Legal Beans can get very busy, so there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to sit near an accessible power outlet to charge your workstation. Towards the back of the cafe , there exists one main power strip with 6 power outlets. There’s also one wall outlet in the back with 2 sockets.

Legal Beans

Legal Beans reminds me of funky East Village cafe which makes it a nice change. You walk inside and it has that antique, old-school feel to it with couchy seating, large floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor seating with umbrellas. Some Hobokenites call Legal Beans a second home – with it’s cozy, relaxing setting and a great working environment. With 9 tables indoor and 9 tables outdoor, get there during late afternoon hours on weekends and weekdays if you don’t want to be waiting for a seat.

What makes Legal Beans stand out among other cafes in town is that they have a real grill with real cooks. From breakfast, lunch and dinner, they have everything from burgers, cheese steaks to omelettes and waffles. I enjoyed by Cajun Chicken Sandwich ($8.50) – freshly grilled chicken smother in cajun spices, avocado, cucumber, tomato and mesclun on a kaiser roll. To quench my thirst, I had a non-alcoholic Mojito Awesome Teazer ($4.25) which had a shot of mint mojito, squeezed lime juice, fresh mint leaves and a little bit of green tea in a 24 ounces tall glass.

When it comes to their coffee, they serve Premium with a capital P. They offer an array of green raw coffee and cocoa beans from around the world, including the highly recommended Sikwati, which is a hot chocolate made with pure cocoa that they get from plantations in the Philippines. I have yet to try this drink because it’s always sold out! Oh and please try their brownies – they’re amazing. Better yet, just try everything, okay? You won’t be disappointed.

Only issue is their horrible service. Been there 9 times and only had one good service experience. Hopefully one day they will get that fixed. Good food, relaxing atmosphere…
