Good Times at Hoboken’s OLG Funfest 2009

Posted on 07. Jun, 2009 in Leisure

With the beautiful sunny weather this weekend, there couldn’t have been a better day to hold the 4th annual OLG Funfest. Sponsored by Our Lady of Grace and St. Joseph’s Church, the festival took place at Church Square Park, where Hoboken and Hudson County residents got to spend time with family and enjoy some delicious food, arts and crafts, pony rides and carnival games. It’s summer events like these that make Hoboken a great city to live in. And although I didn’t win any cool stuffed animals, I did have a great time taking photos at the event and meeting some really cool peeps. Check out some of my snapshots from this event!

I HEART CARNIVAL GAMES

I ain’t a kid anymore, but I am a kid at heart. I love shooting on mini basketball hoops at carnivals. I was rusty on my shot today, so I decided to call it quits and indulge in something more practical – like the delicious food!

They also had some unique carnival games like this, where children had to try and get ping pongs into fish bowls. I didn’t get a chance to give this a try, but I noticed this game was super popular with the parents and kids.

I WISH I COULD MOONWALK AGAIN

No, I’m not talking about the dance move! I’m talking about those fun inflatable fun houses where kids can bounce and toss themselves 10 feet in the air. I wish they had one of these just for adults! (I told you I was a kid at heart)

OLG Funfest 2009

They had three moonwalks dispersed across the entire park. Most of the children gravitated towards the inflatable moonwalk shaped like a castle that was guarded by a ginormous T-Rex! Arrrggggggggh!

THIS GUY HAS JUGGLING SKILLS

I wasn’t early enough to catch the Fuzzy Lemons’ performance, but I did enjoy the circus juggling acts of Dan Juggles. From juggling balls to bowling pins on fire, children and parents were entertained with Juggles crazy stunts. If you’d like to hire Juggles for parties or event, shoot him an email at danjuggles@hotmail.com. You can also catch him perform again at this year’s Hoboken Art and Music Festival this upcoming Fall.

I SAW SPIDERKIDS!

Well, not really! Ha. But I did notice the awesome face painting they were to all the kids. Almost every kid out there had Spiderman masks painted on their face. It looked really rad! Some of the kids even knew how to shoot their spidey web! I wanted a spidey face mask too, but I chickened out.

FOOOOOD! YUM!

If it’s anything I enjoyed today, it was the amazing food. Just by looking at these photos, I could still smell the delicious aroma of the Filipino BBQ and Sausage and Peppers Sandwiches.

OLG Funfest 2009

Bernie’s Shish Kabobs offered Hobokenites a taste of Filipino flavors with their delectable BBQ pork and beef on a stick.

OLG Funfest 2009

They even had the classic Italian sausage, onions and pepper sandwiches. Look at the fellas – they’re so focused and hard at work!

THIRST QUENCHERS

With today’s weather being beautiful but warm and kids running around in need of some hydration, there were enough vendors to quench everyone’s thirst, from the Juice Shack (above) serving all-natural fruit smoothies to Hoboken’s very own Rita’s Italian Ice (below).

CLOSE UP CLOTHING

Out of all the street vendors located throughout the Church Square Park sidewalks, Close Up Clothing had caught my eye with their fresh tees. They’re still establishing themselves as a business, but be on the look out for these guys. They got pretty sick t-shirt designs.

MADISON PARKER CLOTHING

Speaking of freshness, how about making your infant and toddler look hip and cool with Madison Parker Clothing’s awesome designs. Based out in Jersey City, the couple was inspired by the birth of their twin daughters and personal desire not to dress their kids in the latest Winnie the Pooh t-shirts.

OLG Funfest 2009

They also sponsor a monthly dance party for parents and kids (ages 6 to 7 years old) called Little Club heads. The launch party will be held July 26th at Ultra in NYC. For more details, check out the flyer at Littleclubheads.com.

DEVIL’S MAY CARE

Devil’s May Care offers carefully crafted, handmade wearable fine art. Featuring the original photography of Hoboken’s talented Jamie Greenberg and select guest artists, each shirt is carefully silkscreen printed reinforcing the philosophy that adornment should as unique as it’s wearer.

OLG Funfest 2009

They first gained popularity from their limited edition belt buckle collection which also uses original photography. Jamie, can you make these for guys too? I’m sure Kayne West would dig this style!

THANKS TO OUR LADY OF GRACE AND ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH

I’d like to end this post with a big thanks to Our Lady of Grace, St. Joseph’s Church and all those that organized, volunteered and attended this event. It was such a great turnout that even the doggies at the park had a blast!
