Mission #3: Best Bar Games & Rec Rooms
Posted on 29. Apr, 2009 in Leisure
Although the days of jumping into a ball pit at Chuck E Cheese are over, we still need some form of leisure to keep us entertained. And with over 60+ local bars across the mile square, most of us can pretty much walk a few blocks from our home, hit up a bar and enjoy a nice cold brewsky while talking sports with friends or neighbors. But ultimately, when we’re bar crawling, we need more than just alcohol and TV screens to keep us amused while we’re getting intoxicated.
THE MISSION
With this being said, I am excited to announce another Hoboken Guy mission:
Find the Best Bar Games and Rec Rooms
To me, engaging in some awesome competitive bar games is one of the best forms of therapeutic refreshment for one’s body and mind. It’s about grown-up debauchery meeting adolescent entertainment. From dart boards to beer pong and trivia nights to Jenga tournaments, I’m on a quest to find the best Hoboken bars with the best recreation rooms. And since this mission takes into account any form of recreation inside a bar, I’m also counting bars that host special days with great game nights.
THE PROCESS
1) Over the next couple of weeks, I will scavenge across the mile square and visit various recommended bars with rec rooms given by the Hoboken community.
2) If I consider your recommended bar worthy enough to be one of the best, I’ll write an extensive review, give you credit and dub thee as a “Hoboken Guy Sidekick”.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP
- Share your favorite bar rec room by commenting below or emailing me at tell@thehobokenguy.com. If you’re on Twitter, you can tweet me @thehobokenguy.
- Please specify the name of the bar, describe the bar and rec room (pool table, darts, buck hunter, trivia night etc.)
- Describe why it deserves to be one of the top bar rec rooms in the mile square
Maybe all Hoboken needs is a Dave and Busters, but for now I’ll stick to the local bars around town that already keep me entertained. So c’mon! Help me out by posting your recommendations below!

Willie McBrides!!!
Off the beaten path….games…tons of space…free limo to the bar if you need it (which by the way, comes with free cover!) and theres usually live music.
Shannon usually gets too crowded on the weekend to play anything, but for the week its ok. 8th street is one of the longest bars on Washington, I totally agree with that one!
BEER PONG!!! how can you forget Scotland Yard

I recommend the Shannon…they’re probably the best bar out there with the best games. Almost every day of the week they have a game night…from trivia night to darts to buck hunter..check it out HG!

I recommend checking out 8th Street Tavern. They’ve got one of the longest most spacious bars in Hoboken, and they’ve got tons of games in the back, from darts to billiards.
