Whether you’re recovering from a hangover or have the munchies for a delicious breakfast sandwich, do yourself a favor and head over to Hoboken’s hidden gem, Backyard Bistro and order their infamous sandwich known as the Vermonster. This decadent sandwich is packed with classic breakfast ingredients, but what really makes this sandwich stand out is its delicious, toasted pretzel bread. When I heard rave reviews from the owner about this popular choice among locals, especially after a night of drunken debauchery, I had to give the sandwich a try. And when you have other customers sitting around you glaring at your Vermonster, telling their waiter “I’ll have whatever he got”, you know you made the right choice. Buuuuurp! Excuse me.

I don’t know about you but I love the 80’s. Who doesn’t? I mean, we had Madonna, Alf, Knight Rider, Trapper Keepers, Rubik’s Cubes, Slap Bands and most importantly, bad hair and hideous clothing! Well, if you’re looking to relive the days of side pony-tails and mesh tank top tees, then watching the whirlwind comedy production of Bartholomew Fair, NJ is a must! With only five hysterical actors performing over 20 different quirky characters, you’re in for 80 delirious minutes of delightful hijinks. Performing last summer, this theatrical treat is back by popular demand. The best part is that it’s FREE (donations will be accepted) and open to all ages!

As I tackle another mission to find the best of Hoboken barbershops, I figured I’d start out by letting you in on my secret hot spot for getting my hair trimmed, neat and perfectly groomed. When I first moved to Hoboken, I was unimpressed with the quality of cuts given by the unisex chain salons across the mile square. Luckily, I had a college friend who had recommended D&V to save me from the usual uneven sideburns. For nearly 50 years, Dominick and Vincent’s Barber Shop has provided the Hoboken community with precision cuts and fresh styles that will guarantee compliments.

Best Bar Games & Rec Rooms: Duffy’s

As I continued my quest for the best adult rec rooms across the mile square, I had come to a realization that I forgot to review one of my town favorites. When I’m looking for a nice spot to relax after work and pound a few of those drink specials, I head over to the small friendly neighborhood Irish pub better known as Duffy’s. I’m a big fan of great bars that sit off of Washington Street because they don’t get too crowded and you’ll usually meet some really friendly Hobokenites rather than the rude out-of-towners that tend to crawl the popular Washington Street bars. But if there’s two main things I love about Duffy’s: the great bartenders and the little nook of darts and buck hunter!
