The Lonely Couch on 15th Street

Once in a while, I’ll explore Hoboken in hopes to find interesting objects to photograph. A photography buddy of mine had shown me a spot underneath the 15th Street overpass, where fresh graffiti talks loudly and a little old lonely couch sits quietly and listens. Who knows how long this couch has been here or how long it will survive. I find that its beauty in both solitude and randomness is simply just fascinating.

I have an obsession for cobblestone roads, especially ones that still exist around town that reminds Hoboken of its past. I took this photograph on Court Street, which runs between Hudson and Washington from 7th to Newark Streets. As you stare down this long deserted alleyway, you could almost flashback to the way it used to be hundreds of years ago, originally providing access to the residents’ mews or stables. Today it is used primarily as an alley and access for home garages. For me, it’s a quick and bumpy shortcut when I’m biking around town and want to avoid the heavy pedestrian traffic on good ol’ Washington Street.
