The Shannon: A Drinker’s Playground
Posted on 26. Aug, 2009 in Leisure
On my quest to find the best bars with games and rec rooms, I found that no other bar in Hoboken can compare to the variety of bar games that The Shannon has to offer. Located in downtown Hoboken, this game room paradise offers over seven types of bar games with occasional special game nights using classic games that we all love. They also carry almost every major sports package, so if you’re looking for a great bar to watch a big game or your favorite team, check out their insanely ginormous projection screen in the back of the bar. So walk in, have a drink and enjoy the drinker’s ultimate playground.
HOBOKEN GUY’S BREAKDOWN

Ambiance
Established in 1959, this Irish pub has been known as the bar of choice to Hobokenites who want to drink, play games and watch sports during the week. And during the weekends, it’s known for the frat-party like dance floor and long lines of people trying to get in. The front of the bar is small, but good enough if you’re going for that night of chillaxation on a weekday. And if you need a little more action at the front bar, they’ve got NTN Buzztime on their LCD TV screens for those that love trivia games. The bar from the outside looks small, but they rock one of the largest backrooms in Hoboken, which carries most of the bar games, dance floor and on big sport game day events, they pull out their 106 inch projection screen!

Buck Hunter
Looking for a bar where you can drink and shoot some deer? Shannon offers Buck Hunter at the front of the bar for all the animal hunters out there. Although it’s only the single player version, you can still get enough of that game killing spree out of the way.

Fooseball
Towards the back of the bar, play a round of some classic Fooseball with some local competition. The back room gives plenty of space for you to practice good offense and impenetrable defense.

Pool
Also at the rear of the bar, you’ll find a pool table to show off your sharp shooting skills. No worries, unlike most bars in the mile square, The Shannon gives you a good amount of room to shoot with good form without poking anyone on the dance floor.

Darts
The Shannon offers some great space to play darts in the back room. With five dart boards, you can pretty much bring your friends down and start a tournament without too many people waiting to throw. Usually, it’s best to play darts during the weekdays since on weekends it’s usually packed with people on the dance floor next to the dart boards. Every Thursday at 7:00pm they host a Luck of the Draw Dart Tournament – $10 to play/Bar matches 100%.

Special Game Nights
In the past, The Shannon has hosted various tournaments using classic games such as Jenga, Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Nintendo Wii Tennis and Poker. From this, it’s easy to say that Shannon puts in the effort to make their game nights fun and interesting by giving us the games we love.
