Filipino-American funky pop/rock band Warhol Soup is making an effort to aid the victims of typhoon Ketsana that recently brought up to 20-feet deep floods, 248 deaths, $100,000,000 in damages to their homeland of the Philippines. The September 26th typhoon brought 455mm rainfall in 24 hours, compared to hurricane Katrina’s rainfall of 310mm. The fundraiser gig will take place TONIGHT (October 9th) at their new regular gig at Bar Saints and Sinners in Hoboken. They will be donating all the money they make from their cut at the door tonight and from t-shirt sales to their charity. Continue reading for event details!

EVENT DETAILS

LOCATION: Bar Saints and Sinners (O’Donoghues on First St.) on 205 First Street, Hoboken, NJ
DATE: Tonight! – Friday, October 9
TIME: 10:00pm. Say “Warhol Soup” at the door since the donation is taken from their draw.

This Filipino-American Band turned what would have been a regular gig, into an opportunity to raise funds and more importantly awareness.

Lead vocalist and Morris Plains resident, Marq Romero says “We already had the October 9 gig scheduled a week before the typhoon hit the Philippines. So we decided to be proactive and turn it into a fundraiser to help our people back in the motherland. We all have friends and family back home who have been directly effected, who have lost loved ones and pretty much everything they ever owned.”

Bassist, John Sayson from Belleville says “I can’t bare to look at the videos and pictures from the flood anymore, especially of the children. It’s too depressing because I have three kids of my own. This tragedy has literally hit home for Filipinos worldwide.”

Filipinos all across America have begun collaborating around-the-clock via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to organize fundraisers and donation drop-off centers within their communities. However, what makes Warhol Soup’s fundraiser stand out from others is that they will be sharing the stage with non-Filipino bands and playing at a non-Filipino venue to a dominantly non-Filipino crowd. “In other words, the typical Friday night crowd in Hoboken,” Romero jokes.

“This is the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for what’s going on in the Philippines to people outside of the Filipino-American community. By seeing a Hoboken bar filled with Filipinos gathered for one cause, we’re hoping it will make a big statement to everyone else. I believe by raising public awareness and them seeing how important this is, we can hopefully get some of those people to show their support for our cause.” This is a band that stands for something far greater than sex, drugs and rock and roll. Please show your support!
